Insight in waterways and routes including dimensions and operating times is required to optimally plan transportation. Normally multiple information sources need to be checked and re-evaluated multiple times when making, adjusting or executing the plan. By bundling these sources, both static (dimensions & restrictions) as well as the dynamic (currents & tidal) a single source is created.
Planning a trip and taking all relevant constraints into consideration to find the optimal route is a lot of work. Planning algorithms support the users, all possible options are calculated and the relevant variables are made visible in the context of the route, including ETA’s. This allows to evaluate more options and reduces the chances on making errors.
Once the route has been calculated and selected relevant information can be provided to the user in the context of the trip. Only when the skipper arrives in the vicinity of a specific location information is displayed or the skipper is notified. This reduces the information overload. Information at the right place and the right time!
RiverGuide is a collaboration between port and waterway authorities. The RiverGuide initiative was started to innovate in collaboration with the users, barge skippers and recreational skipper. The aim is to improve safety, efficiency and sustainability in ports and on the Dutch waterways. Teqplay developed the app and website. Multiple information sources are bundled and combined. Information is presented in the context of the trip and in a visual attractive and user friendly app. The app also contains functionality to automatically request bridge openings, informing the bridge tenants on the arrival . The result is a better experience and less waiting time on both the road and the waterways.
